Two fatesplit threads that have surprised me with their popularity. So why don't we start to talk about them a little bit, to try and work out why they were this popular in the first place and what people want to see from them.

Apologies for getting to this so late in the day, but here it is now. Have a great New Year's celebration everyone, but do try to show enough common sense to survive the season.

So Haruhi made up for last week by charging out of the gate and maintaining a solid lead over everything else.

Whew, ran this a little late this week. But here it is! I hope it turned out alright, let me know what you think. It looks pretty damn certain that Haruhi will win the vote this week, so discuss along those lines please.

So I saw an Urusei Yatsura fatesplit earlier in the week, and decided to take advantage of it. Here goes!
Story: Love Normal: New Manager
Here is the second of this week's winners. I hope you enjoy them both. Now I have to get to Tainted Cube, which will be tricky as it means resisting the allure of my Christmas haul.

Merry Christmas everyone! Here is a To Love Ru piece that I hope you enjoy. I'll start working on ANDFR shortly, and will post it whenever it is ready.

Discussion: ANDFR/Love Normal
What's this? What's this? Two threads have won this week? What's this? It's really quite unique! What's this? Is Lumitiel celebrating Christmas in his own special little way?
And so on. I can't be bothered doing the rest of the song, I'm sure you get the idea. But yes, I decided earlier this week to give you a Christmas gift of also writing whatever second place turned out to be, and it turns out the top two are ANDFR and Love Normal. Don't celebrate Christmas? Well, then happy whatever holiday you may or may not celebrate this time of year even if it's not the most important holiday of your culture.
As for me? I like using it as an excuse to give people gifts so that I can watch their faces light up. So... Gift! Accept it please!
Let's discuss both threads here.

Tainted Cube Voting Closed: New Poll will begin shortly
This week was outright fascinating to behold in action. It looked very much like Haruhi had a very strong lead at the start, but was rapidly overtaken by Code Geass around the middle. From there, it was pretty obvious what the winner would be.

Tainted Cube: Believe that Promise!
This one turned out longer than I was expecting, but that's pretty much universally been the case with these so far. Since it looks like Code Geass is pretty much unbeatable at this point, you can discuss under the assumption it is what's going to win.

Story: Demon's Test: Starting School
Here's Demon's Test! I don't think I got things as perverted as I might have liked, but the story is definitely pushed forward a little bit. I've also given a direction or two to latch onto for myself or any other contributor that is interested in doing so.
Please suggest improvements if you see anything that really needs it.

Story: Worst Demon Hunter In History
Here's a little introduction to another thread, and I hope you all enjoy it. Wrote it before falling ill, but wanted to tweak small things before posting it. Like, working out what the options might be. I'm taking suggestions on that front.
Discussion: Demon's Test
I will warn now that I'm sick as a dog. Head pounding, limbs weak, stomach whispering tales of death and destruction, throat drier than a British newscaster's wit. Lumitiel is not a well man this weekend.
In spite of that I will soldier on and try to open discussion over what should be done with Demon's Test.

Tainted Cube Voting Closed: New Poll will begin shortly
After several weeks of second place, Rosario + Vampire is the winner! I don't really have anything else to say at the moment, except that next week should be particularly interesting with both Sailor Moon and Ranma 1/2 back in the poll. Clearly we're not entering into a cycle of the same series time after time, which I find very encouraging.

Story: Tainted Cube: A Little Knowledge
Let's see what you make of this one. It looks a lot like Rosario + Vampire is gonna take it this week, so feel free to speculate about what could happen with that.

Tainted Cube Voting Closed: New Poll will begin shortly
In a rather surprising turn, Love Hina came from behind to take the lead by two clear points. As a brief confession, I have to admit that I was privately rooting for it to win, but only because it was the underdog.
For the first time since this started, a series is added back into the mix for the coming week. This means we wind up keeping things nice and stable at five series a week.
However! I am concerned by the notion that we'll just wind up with these four series on a continuous loop. Though I would gladly write Sailor Moon if it turned out to be the most popular, I would like to ask that all participants carefully consider what series they really think could benefit from being the next winner. If you think that's Sailor Moon? Great! If you think it's typical second place thus far Rosario + Vampire? Fantastic! Any of the others? Go for it! I fully expect to see all eight series come into play at some point, and the sooner they interact with the plotline the better. On the other hand, it might be interesting to see Sailor Moon actually be altered in some direct manner. It's really all up to you.
I would also like to remind you that I am accepting votes for individual spinoffs from any of these threads, so long as you specify which one you want.

Story/Further Discussion: Wild Ride For Ranma
So I came up with a bit of backstory for what was going on. Then I realised it was kinda short and felt compelled to do something else with it, so I think I would like to make a sequence involving Ukyo immediately follow the background stuff. Originally it would just go to options about who was hit next, but I figure Ukyo makes the most sense.
I'll discuss more following the story.
Edit: I have now removed the discussion portion and added the Ukyo section.

Discussion: Wild Ride for Ranma
I have a confession to make regarding this thread. I was rather afraid of when it inevitably did reach the top, because I didn't have the faintest damn clue what direction to take it in. What would I do with it? How could I satisfy those voting it up without a concrete ground to stand upon? Something like this was inevitably going to happen eventually, and I dreaded that this might be the first. The individual episodes were okay, but I didn't really have much of an idea what to do next.
Then a miracle happened. In what was likely a calculated move to guarantee the thread won the week, it was updated the day before it would have won the vote anyway. And with that new episode came a couple of potential directions. Let's see what you think.

Tainted Cube Voting Closed: New Poll will begin shortly
That's this week's Tainted Cube poll closed! A new one will be
open momentarily. This week's was a lot more obvious than either of the previous two weeks which would be the winner, and I was tempted to call it early. Heck. I'm writing this fifteen hours before the poll actually even closes, and I doubt that either Code Geass or Rosario + Vampire will be able to make up the considerable distance in that amount of time. It's almost like there was a battle royale between those three, and Shinji decides he'll bring Unit 01 along with. This wasn't a poll. It was a slaughter.
As of this week we are down to the more normal numbers that will occur for this series of threads. I would also like to remind you that I am not accepting votes on the regular poll around Tainted Cube... unless you would like to see a particular thread spun off, in which case I insist that you specify which one.

Discussion: Haruhi's Ero Space
So begins the second (larger) batch of stories from fatesplits, consisting of Haruhi Suzumiya, Sailor Moon, Rosario + Vampire and To Love Ru. In this case we start off with a tale in which Haruhi becomes interested in dating sims and inadvertantly alters reality to accomodate her new fascination! Let's talk about how this could be best represented in the first episode.
Story: Tricked Himself Into It
Here is the last of the original batch of fatesplits I set up a few months back. As of next week I'll start working on the next one, beginning with Haruhi Suzumiya's Ero Space.

Story: Love Pendant Usagi: Study, Study!
I think this is gonna go a little bit differently than people expect, because my own thought process when putting it together went a little all over the place. Still! Here it is.
Now all I need to do is justify a minor plot hole, but it shouldn't be too hard to cover up. If you spot it and can think of a way to do so, I'm all ears.

Tainted Cube: Ranma Meets Sailor V, Warrior of Love!
Here it is, and I hope this meets your expectations. Looking at the way the poll currently is makes it very likely that Evangelion will be the winner for the coming week, so that seems like the safest place to put discussion and speculation on what will come next. Though I do not want to be seen as discouraging either further votes changing that direction, or from participants discussing other series following on from this. Merely observing what currently seems most likely.
Anyway, the story! I've tried to insert hammer related puns where possible for a certain character, but if anyone sees a prime opportunity to put in more I welcome them. I also welcome suggestions for different options or different wordings of those options. Have fun, and let me know what you think of it! I strive to improve where possible, and feedback of all sorts is necessary for this process.

Tainted Cube Voting Closed: New Poll will begin shortly
That's this week's Tainted Cube poll closed! A new one will be
open momentarily. I have noticed a curious pattern emerge over these first two weeks. It seems as though Code Geass and Haruhi both get one vote each, then some other series decide to tie up for the majority of it until a tiebreaker occurs at the end. Last week it was between Eva and Sailor Moon, this week Ranma and Rosario.
I wonder if the pattern will hold this week.

Tainted Cube: The One Called Sailor Moon
Here is the first installment. No earth shattering changes yet, but the seeds are being sown and the dice has been cast. Let us see how Usagi's desires get twisted around and perverted for whatever wins next week's poll.
Discussion: Real World Sailor Moon
First, some minor news. I am intending to repost this thread on Adultfanfiction, and have received permission from both Sirocco and Cross C to do so. Before doing this, I intend to go over the work so far and clean it up a bit, but that can be discussed in another post.
For now let us discuss the possible direction for the next episode. I have already asked Sirocco what his intentions for the thread are, and they are posted below.
Also, this is Sirocco's blog if you would like to visit there.

That's the first week's Tainted Cube poll closed! A new one will be open momentarily. Though I do have to wonder... Did someone make it Sailor Moon month and not tell me? It seems awfully popular around here all of a sudden for some reason.

Story: Sailor Moon Titnosis: Fight It Out!
I didn't quite get as much done on this as I had been hoping, but this seemed like the most natural place to end this episode. If nothing else we have a solid direction for this to go in, which was a tremendous help in writing this piece. Hope you enjoy.

Discussion: Sailor Moon Titnosis
There are a multitude of potential directions this could take, and I would like to have a bit of a discussion about what exactly will be done with it. My problem is not so much that I don't have any ideas for where to take it forward. It's more like I have too many ideas! Therefore, there aren't really going to be spoilers in this post. More a discussion on the various possible directions this thread could take.
Thread Voting: Open Until 18th November
Here is this week's voting thread. Which will take it this week? I honestly couldn't tell you. It could go any way.

Tainted Cube Poll Now Open!
If you look to the right, you should see a poll. Every week, Saturday midnight (my time) I will set up a new poll for Tainted Cube. The winner of the poll will determine which of the eight series serves as the setting for the next episode, which will be written during the week the poll closed.
The winner of each week's poll will be removed from consideration for three weeks, which means that this week's is going to be the largest poll conducted on this topic.
Please note that unlike the other voting game, votes do not carry over from week to week.
As an additional observation I have now added the ability to follow this blog by email. That is found just underneath the poll, and please use it if you feel it would make following easier for you.
The first poll will close this coming Saturday (the 17th) at midnight. I hope to see you participate, and I also hope this will curtail my recent new thread obsession.
If you have any particular feelings regarding what you would like to see in this thread, please post your thoughts below so that we can all discuss the story.

Story: Tainted Cube Introduction
Now for something a bit more ambitious. By a bit, I clearly mean a lot. By a lot, I clearly mean god help me.
I've not tried anything this ambitious since "Altered History". But this, I feel, should go a hell of a lot smoother. Particularly if I use this blog to help keep things organised. A new page will be joining the others at the top of the blog titled "Tainted Cube" at some point later on. It will be used to help keep track of various things.
In particular! I intend to introduce a new voting game to the blog surrounding this particular concept. I have not yet determined the exact mechanics, and would like to encourage discussion in the comments regarding this topic. You see, from the episode below I intend to take option 2, and I intend to update this thread each week. Which means it won't go on the regular vote, but that's a whole other issue.
What will the vote be for? The setting for the next update. See, this is a crossover thread spanning multiple anime/manga series. Each remains seperate, but each will have an influence upon the next. Thus, the ending of one episode will have an effect on whatever the next piece of continuity is. For example: If Kyon expressed a desire for wealth at the end of a given episode, and then Code Geass won the following week then Lelouch would wake up the next morning with a room covered with gold coins. That sort of thing would happen each week.
Obviously one concern is the possibility that the same series wins multiple weeks in a row. There are two ways I can think of to prevent this from occuring: The first is that once a series wins, it cannot appear again in the votes until all series have won. The other is that a series cannot participate the week after it has won. If anyone else can think of anything, I am all ears.
Here is the story's introduction. I hope you enjoy it.

Story: Rei Swarm
This is the last Evangelion story from that fatesplit. I've been told that the first part is perhaps a little too long and should be cut a little bit somewhere. Does anyone else agree with this assessment? And if so, do you have any suggestions on how it should be cut down?
Discussion: Sexy Akane
This is a bit of a tricky one, because I can so easily see it devolving into yet another "Ranma gets a sexy harem" thread. I don't like doing those these days because they feel sort of empty and soulless. So with that in mind, here's what I've got.
Thread Voting: Open Until 11th November
Following discussions over the course of last week, I have decided that each thread mentioned within a single vote must be cast for a different thread. This is the method the majority wanted and to be honest I agree with this way of doing things.
And so, we open up a new thread. Happy voting!

Test: New Table Format
Just trying out something I saw online. I've felt that the table format needed changing for a while now, to make it easier for me to sort and let anyone search through it. So, I've been looking online for things that would let me do just that. Unfortunately I need to publish this to check if it works, which is why this went up.
Here's what I've come up with.
I think that's about as good as I can get it. Would this format be preferred?

Rule Change Discussion
In the comments for this week's voting thread, certain issues came to light. It is my general policy NOT to implement rule changes until the week following, to permit those interested to discuss the pros and cons. To that end, please vote as you usually would. The thread is not closed until this issue is resolved.
Let's address these two issues in the comments section here, and leave the voting thread for votes instead.
1: Multiple votes for the same thread.
The reason I established the rules they way they were was for the explicit purpose of promoting variety in updated threads. It seems to me that permitting each participant the opportunity to cast multiple votes on the same thread in the same week is likely to work around that.
If people would prefer to vote for the same thread multiple times, then I would have to insist upon a further rule alteration: Namely, that I do not merely work on the winner and work on second and third position as well. I feel that this approach might help ensure that there is some semblance of variety in the voting, but only if the new rules are adopted.
At the moment I am not convinced this will be necessary. I do not think permitting a participant to use all five votes for the same thread is productive to this blog. If you have any strong feelings one way or the other, please let me know in the comments here.
2: Changes to updated thread votes.
I suggested an alteration to the way threads updated by others acquire points, based on Sirroco asking about it. In detail:
All updates receive one vote, unless it is a string of fatesplits, in which case it is but a single vote for all put together. Tiebreaker points are handed out as follows:
0: Fatesplit. Episode contains nothing but options
1: Poorly written, or contains less than a hundred words.
2: Within a thousand words, good writing quality.
3: Between a thousand and two thousand words, good writing quality.
4: Over two thousand words, good writing quality.
Does anyone have any feelings on this issue? Better rules for establishing the distribution of tiebreaker points? Please suggest them here.

Here is some more It's Fate! And it occurs that sometime soon, Sirocco and I will have to sit down and really think about what the remaining commands are.
Story: Michiru's Body Wash: Fiddling With Herself
I thought about this really hard, and felt that it would be more interesting to leave Michiru something with something of herself. In essence: She's becoming a bimbo with a few innate artistic talents. From this thought an interesting idea was born, and from that was born the punny title. I think I went a bit overboard on certain things, but am not sure what to remove to fix it. Please suggest fixes if you have any ideas.

Thread Voting Open Until October 21st
Since no complaints were raised last week, I have decided that we shall make use of a maximum of five votes a week. To ensure there is a difference in points, the Tiebreaker points assigned will proceed in the order 4,3,2,1,0 rather than the former 3,2,1.
Do remember to put the threads in order of preferance, because I am assuming that is how you want me to assign the Tiebreaker points. First thread gets the most, etc.
The thread is now open! Vote away!

Discussion: ANDFR: In Need of New Title
In all seriousness I would like to put a new title on this and I am taking suggestions for it. Let's talk about what we can do with this one!
Thread Voting Open Until 14th October
A suggestion was made to me by email yesterday regarding a minor alteration to the rules. As always, I would like to ask participants how they feel about the suggested rules alteration before implementing it, so please continue to do as usual until otherwise stated. Vote for three in the order of preferance, most wanted to least.
The suggestion was to permit two additional votes per week. Neither vote would add to the tiebreaker value, but would add to the regular vote. Until two weeks ago that was all that was really needed to win the week anyway. How would everybody feel about voting for up to five a week?
In any case: This week's round of votes is open! Please leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section on whether we should start having five votes as of next week instead of three.

Discussion: Reflective Seduction
I honestly had hoped this would have been pushed forward lest I inadvertantly block off whatever iAmMelting had written for it, but let's get right down to pushing this thread forward.
I am still amused that it won without receiving any votes in weeks. Having said that it would have won much faster if it had during almost any of those weeks.

Thread Voting: Open Until 7th October
For the first time since voting began the tiebreaker points were the deciding factor. Reflective Seduction took the top spot! I had hoped that iAmMelting would have posted his work on the thread before this one won, but he appears to have vanished off the face of the Earth. Here's hoping he comes back soon.

After Cross C's magnificent update this last week, how could I fail to work on this thread? The funny part is, it would have still won even if he'd done only one update. I have a vague idea of where I'm going with this, just need to fill in a few gaps and I can go from there.

This week's round of votes is now open! It looks like Konatsu's New Technique will surprise me once again with its popularity, with the potential that it will win for the third time. Another first for the thread. Will that come true this week, or will Reflective Seduction finally take the top spot after being in second place for well over a month? Or, maybe something else will creep in from behind and steal victory from out of nowhere!

I would like to ask you all to comment on the ANDFR post, to comment on which scene you think works better as the second scene. I'll update it after seeing as many opinions on this as I can get. If nobody else does comment by wednesday, I'll flip a coin.
And for iAmMelting, if you would like some help with Reflective Seduction before posting it I am certainly available for discussion. Please keep in mind that if that does win this week - as seems possible - then it will be difficult for me to post without fear of blocking off an option you intended to take. I'd prefer not to have to work on it before you posted both your versions of events. Thank you.
As a final note, yesterday I made a number of threads that I am calling "Story Splits". Fate splits designed to promote certain story ideas. I will permit votes for any of those ideas, but will link to the split thread.
The three story splits were for Urusei Yatsura, Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Another week, another round of votes. Let's see what you want to be posted next. Will Reflective Seduction finally take the lead, or will another thread take the top spot instead?
Additionally, I apologise for Konatsu's New Technique being late this week. I have made further alterations to the thread, as I felt the historical portion was... lacking considerably. This new scene at least ensures that conflict is present within the story. Please see the previous post to see the change. If everyone is happy with that, I'll post it later today with options splitting off the exact nature of the technique.

Concept: Reflective Seduction
Though one of the reasons this blog was made was to bounce around a few ideas for stories, this is the first time I've actually done so. Story: Asuka Word Processor: Bragging Rights!
Asuka's fingers hovered over the keyboard, lost in the irresistable urge to type out something. Simply to check and make sure this old thing still worked, simply a case of idle curiousity. Nothing more than that, right? Still, the question remained. What should she type? Ah, but the answer became rather obvious after a moment's thought, and her fingers flew expertly across the keyboard as she typed about her favourite subject.
0000: Hello! My name is Asuka Langley Soryu! Aren't you lucky to be used by someone as talented, beautiful and intelligent as myself? I don't need any introduction, of course, but will give one anyway!
0001: I am the pilot for the greatest Evangelion unit, Unit 02! It is well matched with me, for I am the best pilot of them all! My tactical prowess is without peer, my reaction time nearly superhuman and my strength in combat is unmatchable! When I am in Unit 02, the place that Angels fear to tread is covered by a radius a hundred miles around where I am!
0002: There are two other pilots I am forced to work alongside. The first is Rei Ayanami, a girl with no will of her own! She's the sort that will follow any instruction given to her, no matter what it is.
0003: The other is Shinji Ikari. He seems to have something of a yellow streak, but he's not fooling me! In truth he's a massive covert pervert that hides behind innocence and fake shyness to get away with his perverted tendencies. Unfortunately I appear to be the only one that sees through it.
0004: I'm being forced to live with him at the moment, but not just him! There's also Misato Katsuragi, my former guardian. She's a bit of a drunken slob at home, and barely seems to be able to keep from flirting with every guy she meets. Other than that we get on alright.
The urge to type faded away and Asuka looked back over at what she'd typed out. Yep. It looked like it was working just fine! "Not bad for an antique," she mused, but then she blinked as the screen started to flicker. After a moment a message popped up.
"World Processor: Compiling New Data. Extracting Relevant Alterations" Asuka read out. "What the heck does that even mean?"
The message faded away, and was replaced with four lines.
0000: Asuka is beautiful, intelligent and talented. She needs no introduction.
0001: Unit 02 is the greatest Evangelion. Asuka is the best pilot. Her tactical prowess is without peer, her reaction time is nearly superhuman and her strength in combait is unmatchable. When she is in Unit 02, Angels dread approaching closer than a hundred miles.
0002: Asuka works alongside two pilots. Rei Ayanami has no will of her own and will obey any instruction given to her.
0003: Shinji Ikari pretends to be a shy coward, but is merely pretending to cover his true perverted nature. Only Asuka can see through this ruse.
0004: Asuka is being forced to live with Shinji and Misato Katsuragi. She is a drunken slob when home, and barely restrains herself from flirting with every guy she meets. Other than that, Asuka and Misato get on alright.
"Dummkopf computer!" Asuka yelled, stomping her foot indignantly. "That's not what I typed! Not at all! This antique is broken after all! Worthless thing!"
With a heavy sigh, Asuka switched it off and turned around to leave. She stopped upon reaching the door as a terrible thought occured to her, prompting her to turn back around and switch the processor back on again. To her horror, the same words were showing up on the screen. The same words that would surely raise all manner of hell if Misato decided to use this thing at any point in the near future, and - Oh dear. Suddenly this word processor had turned into a ticking time bomb! Nothing else for it! She'd have to hide it in her room until she figured out a way to make the text disappear!
- Retcon initiated! How does the series look when changed as per these instructions?
- Meanwhile, Shinji becomes a covert pervert!
- Asuka plays around with the word processor a little more.
- No time for that! Angel attack!
- Something else

Here is the winner to last week's contest. I would also like to announce a slight alteration to the rules. Any update by someone else in one of my threads will constitute a vote for that thread, with the tiebreaker increase depending on the quality and length of the update.

3: Well written, but longer than a thousand words.
If an update is updated, those will count as further votes.

Story: Life, Death and the Storm: It Fell From the Stars
Time for something a little bit different. This is a first draft that I'm intending to put on fanfiction.net rather than the BEA, because it's the first chapter of a complete story that I've already mostly got figured out in my head. It is (as the tag will indicate) an NGE and Doctor Who crossover piece, making use of something from Doctor Who that has to my tremendous shock and surprise not been used in any fanfiction piece on fanfiction.net. If that is wrong, please provide me with a link because I'd love to read that.
I have provided a link at the bottom so you can see the thing in question. It would probably go into an author's note on the site.
As it is a first draft, please point out all the myriad ways this can be improved upon. My own critical gaze is a little skewered on that regard having written it.

Story: The Forbidden Fruit
So I recently saw Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time. This naturally led me into checking out various pieces of fanfiction in an attempt to gain a better sense of closure than the series canon gave me, which is also sort of the same reason I got into Ranma 1/2 fanfiction. I rapidly noticed that the most common kind of NGE fanfiction that exists is the Peggy Sue fic type - named such on tvtropes after the movie Peggy Sue got married - in which a character goes back into their own past selves and tries to fix everything that went wrong for them.
But then I had two rather original takes on that subject. The first is below. I am debating whether to put it on the BEA or load it elsewhere as a work all to my own.
