Story: Contagious Geass

Isn't it weird that this is the second Code Geass fatesplit story, and Lelouch hasn't made an appearance in either yet?

The Geass Cult is the most formidable secretive organisation in the world. The majority of its members have access to strange supernatural abilities that make each of them a potentially terrifying living weapon entirely on their own. The end goal of this organisation is to unite humanity into a world without deception, without lies and without pain or suffering. A world where all are one and humanity will never ever change or dream again. For now their focus lies elsewhere. For now, their focus relies upon understanding the strange power that will allow this world to come to pass. For now, they research the formidable and baffling powers of the Geass.

Geass is the name given to a particular kind of power that can be granted to any person by an immortal being, usually in exchange for eventually taking the immortality from that same being unto themselves. In some cases there are other reasons to give a Geass, but one of the many interesting things about the Geass is that each and every single recorded Geass is every little bit as unique as the individual that took it. Each influences the mind in some way. Some can cause a particular emotion with eye contact. Others can assume control over another's limbs. Some can manipulate perception in a specific manner. Some can read thoughts or emotions, or instill specific thoughts within a target's mind. And there are so very many more. Each with their own inherent limitations. Each with their own weaknesses that can allow the knowledgable to overcome them. Each extremely dangerous to face in the hands of a seasoned and intelligent wielder.

The questions at the forefront of the Cult's thoughts were simple: Why are there so many different forms for a Geass to take? What causes a given person to have this kind of Geass instead of that kind? Is there any way to predict or manipulate the form a Geass will take before it is given? It can hardly be surprising that an unscrupulous organisation such as the Geass Cult would stoop to the lowest of the scientific lows and experiment upon children. How better to determine the differences than to put them all into different environments and observe their developing brains both before and after they acquire the Geass? How better to set up controls and contrasts? How better to find the answers that they seek?

Those with an ethical spine would surely have stood up and said "any other way but this."

Ah, but these subjects were more than lab rats to the Cult. Many of them would prove to be useful in other ways, and in particular would be trained to become assassins. Some would be wielded as battle axes, others as scalpels. All trained in this manner were just as deadly either way - or they died.

The current head of the Cult holds the appearance of a young boy, no more than ten years old. He is easily six times that apparent age and has the intelligence to prove it. His name is V.V. and he is an immortal with very few scruples and a strong determination to see the plan through to the end. Though his stature is small his power is not to be underestimated - one touch is all it would take to imprison his victims within a cage of their own memories and his capacity for healing from injury is impressive even among his own kind. His kind, it must be pointed out, are immune to the effects of all Geass.

Cunning. Ruthless. Powerful. And at the moment rather angry for reasons that will soon become apparent.

"What do you mean 'he escaped'?"

There was a part of the immortal boy, a very small part, that was indulging in the very human addiction to revenge. That part wanted the subordinate to be snarky in response. Say something like "By 'he' I refer to subject XXX, who, under your orders, is being held in indefinite suspension in a containment cell upon discovery of his Geass powers, with only you being permitted to access said cell. By 'escaped' I mean that he has somehow found a way to breach his containment and fled the facility, flipping us the bird as he went."

Because is he did reply with snark, if he did reply with the slightest hint of sarcasm… Oh, but there would be so much hell to pay!

In a rather wise move, the subordinate asked the question that had really been asked. "We believe he had been preparing for such an escape for some time," the assistant said. "None of our readers are allowed anywhere near him, of course, so it wasn't possible for us to tell either way. But the evidence is mounting in favour of a long preparation period. Yesterday's blackout served as the perfect opportunity."

"None of that matters for now," V.V. said. "He is to be killed. Immediately. Use whatever resources are deemed necessary, and wear as much protection for your eyes as you can get away with. Kill anyone he comes in contact with. Kill anyone they come into contact with. I do not need to remind you of his rare talent."

Air! Fresh air! Sky! He'd heard about the sky! It was so beautiful, and the clouds moved so fast and the sun felt so good against his skin! He curled his toes and felt the warm sand squeeze out between them. This was it. This was beyond everything he had expected on the outside. This was glorious, glorious freedom! No more V.V. telling him what to do, keeping him cooped up in that stupid metal room. No more tests or experiments or threats or needles. No more! He was free!

"Ugh! Stupid parents. Oh well. At least if Daddy had to crash, he did it near this swell beach. "

Subject XXX turned to look and grinned stupidly. He had heard of this, read a little about it in those books. This was a girl. A beautiful girl that was a little taller than him. Her hair was long and brown and full of life, and her skin was an odd colour which indicated she was… what was it called again… Oh, yes! She was sunbathing, that was it. The girl hadn't noticed him yet, but she was pretty. And angry. But mostly pretty. He followed her line of sight and saw two adults arguing while standing next to a - what'sitcalled - a car with smoke pouring out of it, crashed into a tall brown thing with green bits all over the top.

The girl was pretty. So he stepped closer and said the friendliest hello that he could muster. His first new friend! Maybe even a girlfriend! Maybe they could even do that fun sounding stuff he'd read about, and - Oh dear, he appeared to be upside down.

"Hya!" the girl cried. "Stinking pervert! Try to sneak up on me, would you?"

He stared up at the girl's angry face. "You're pretty," he said.

"Ugh!" she yelped, letting go of his arm and taking her foot off his chest. "You disgusting, creepy bum! Well! You tried to mess with the wrong girl! I'm Lisa Wright, the top ranked high school unarmed combat practitioner in the entirety of Area Eleven! Come near me again, and you'll lose that arm, and - Wait… What's wrong with your eye? It looks like there's some sort of bird -"

The pretty Lisa stumbled back, shook her head. The usual response he saw when he used what they called the Geass on anyone. After a moment she glowered at him before running off the beach back towards the car. She seemed nice. He waved her goodbye. Unfortunately he couldn't go with his new friend because he had to cover his tracks and make sure they didn't catch up with him. If they caught up with him then it was all for nothing.

He lay on the beach for an hour staring at the sky. Well. Maybe nothing was the wrong word to use.

The experience made her shiver. Not in fear, mind you. Revulsion. To think that someone so weak and disgusting could touch her. To think that she had to touch him to deal with the situation. If she'd brought her gun with her, that freak would be lying there with his brains blown out! Ugh!

She scratched the side of her right eye. It felt sort of, kind of weird ever since she saw that weird birdlike shape in the freak's eye. It was weird, but it almost felt like she had the same shape in her own eye, bursting to get out.

By the time the Wright famiily reached home, all of them would have that exact same feeling. Each of them was now a carrier for a contagious Geass with a very interesting side effect….

 1. It’s a perverted effect of some kind.
 2. It creates a sort of hive mind.
 3. Each carrier gains brief access to their own Geass, but can only use it once for every person they infect.
 4. Some other effect
