Two fatesplit threads that have surprised me with their popularity. So why don't we start to talk about them a little bit, to try and work out why they were this popular in the first place and what people want to see from them.
Let's start with Sleeping With the Enemy. I gotta figure people are interested in seeing what sort of characters I can come up with for pairing with the Senshi. Now, the instinctive response is probably to make characters exactly like them, except male. No, not exactly. I have to figure these characters have something their respective Senshi see missing inside themselves, and the reverse should also be true.
For Ami. The two of them are intelligent, far beyond that of anyone else they know. This gives them a solid foundation upon which to build a possible relationship, but there should be something else present to make them more than friends
For Rei. They are both very spiritual people, which again might make them establish a friendly relationship. But to make them take the next step there must be something else, like one being drawn towards the other's passionate nature or strength of character.
For Makoto. They are both athletic people with a hidden tender side taht most people don't see in the first impression. I can almost see them meeting during a misunderstanding that leads them to fight one another, where they're equally matched... Until the real villains surround them and make the mistake of trying to take them both down. They laugh about it, start flirting, and things develop from there.
For Minako. I can almost see the two of them working together to set the others up because they're worried their friends aren't relaxing. I'm sort of seeing Minako's having a bit of a prankster side to him as well, doing just about anything to make other people smile. Particularly pretty girls.
So, I guess that's my thoughts on them so far. If you would have a preference for which of them you'd like to see worked on, please let me know. If you have your own ideas, same applies.
Next! Miscalculation! A Jekyll and Hyde story, where Hyde is actually kind of arguably the better person. I think it might do some good to do one of two things here: Focus attention in this next episode on Lelouch's reaction to the bizarre rampage, or maintain focus on Nina and have everything unfolding from her point of view.
Now, in the case of the first. It seems to me that Lelouch would desperately want to meet this mysterious woman with such devastating power, and will analyse any recordings of the incident he can find. Though he'll also be aware of two other things. Cornelia will be doing the same thing, and Cornelia will be expecting him to do the same thing. To that end, he resolves to construct no less than three plans to try and draw her out for a meeting, with each layered atop one another depending on how prepared Cornelia is. He could probably develop a fourth with sufficient time, but dismissed doing so because it would bluntly take far too long.
C.C. will hear this from him and make a sarcastic comment about how circuitous his mind is.
In the case of the second, I can see Nina being jumpy all day. She knows something strange is going on, but doesn't know what exactly that something is. What's worse, she may well show a recording of the experiment to someone, prompting both of them to undergo the transformation.
Comments and suggestions are welcome!
"Kind of arguably"? Sure that wasn't a typo and you actually meant "wholly and utterly"? Not that I'm completely lacking in sympathy for Nina, but she sure doesn't make it easy.
ReplyDeleteMore mahou shoujo transformations? I dunno. Maybe later on, but what really makes the premise intriguing is that it's focusing on a character like Nina finding herself in this predicament. (Though she doesn't grasp what that predicament is just yet.)
Seeing Lelouch's reaction would be most welcome, but I do want to see how Nina tries to make sense of things too. Perhaps there could be two scenes, intercut back ad forth between Nina and Lelouch? You could even use something the device of having Nina start to say something when it cuts to Lelouch finishing the commment with his own words (ans vice versa, obviously).
Of course, I basically just recommended more work for you, so feel free to disregard that!
As for which Senshi should be the focus first, I'm probably most interested in what happens with Ami. But since you said that Minako and her interest might help push the others together, perhaps she should go first? Or not, I don't know.

ReplyDeleteOops my first comment must not have gone through! What I wanted to say was have Ami's potential boyfriend be an incredibly inquisitive sort (not unusual for an intellectual) but considering the fact that he is in a new universe, not to mention new culture and society, this curiosity comes off strangely/vulnerable so he:
ReplyDeleteGets in trouble with police.
Gets conned by delinquents who think him to be a niave tourist.
Just acts plain strangely/in a socially unaccepted manner.
Etc.
And Ami sees him and comes to his aide, he explains his actions and the two hit it off.
The above video was for an example I gave for the "What is the meaning of this gesture?" part where Joseph, having just moved to NY, tries to give the cop the benefit of the doubt for wiping his booger on him. It seemed a lot more relevant in my head last night...
