Discussion: Tainted Cube Rosario + Vampire

I think the title for this one will be "Sink or Swim". Anyway, I'm starting to put some thoughts together for this one and would like to hear your feedback. This will be based on the mermaid chapter of Rosario + Vampire, which is the third one overall in the series.

Here's roughly what I have, in terms of scenes and there are some ideas I'd like to explore written after that.

Scene 1: Tsukune wakes up to the main alteration: Keitaro’s desire to eat with the rest of the girls each morning. He therefore wakes up to find they’ve both enthusiastically made him their own versions of breakfast, while wearing nothing but aprons because the cube does pervert things quite a bit.

Lucky bastard.

Scene 2: After this, in class everyone is informed they need to join a club. Tsukune thinks that’s probably a fun idea, and it will help him find people willing to help him secure peace between humans and monsters. Also it’s a prime opportunity to see Moka in a swimsuit! Though to be honest it’s probably not going to be quite as potent as the sight of her in just an apron.

Scene 3: We get to meet the mermaids that make up the swimming club, the leader of whom has her eyes on Tsukune. She convinces him to join easily enough, but Moka is reluctant.

Scene 4: At the pool, Tsukune learns that Moka doesn’t want to swim. He considers leaving, but is dragged into the pool by the leader of the mermaids, who splashes Moka and this causes her to run away. Tsukune’s attempts to leave the pool to check if she’s alright are stymied by the insistence of the mermaids, who effortlessly block his every attempt to leave. And because of the water, he can’t quite manage to talk properly to them.

Scene 5: Moka believes Tsukune doesn’t care about how she feels, and is paralysed by the water while her inner self chastises her for going near a pool.

Scene 6: Tsukune realises that the mermaids are feeding on the other boys, and becomes rather a great deal more desperate in his escape attempts. Trick being, mermaids are all but invincible in the water and he still can’t speak clearly enough to use his power on them. Kurumu airlifts him out, and Tsukune uses his ability to make them stop attacking once he’s clear of the water.

I will probably have more in there, which involves the mermaid leader becoming a more prominent recurring character (I forgot to look up her name while originally writing this summary up. She's called Ichinose Tamao). What does everyone think about that?

One thought I definitely wanted Tsukune to explore as well was something like as follows:

The main reason monsters have lost to humans is that they fight among themselves way more than humans do. The trouble being that if he wants peace to exist between humans and monsters, he will need to first unite the monsters and there's a risk that they will then be able to overpower the human world.

Thoughts on any of this would be tremendously helpful. And we'll deal with probably Sailor Moon next week, with two weeks for me to write it.

  1. I suppose Tsukune could work towards either first recruiting monster races that are on okay-ish terms with humans (Succubi, Yuki-onna and Witches not being bad starts since they are okay with forming relationships with humans and don't see them as food) and putting individual monsters who like humans in positions of power within their race's government (if they have such a thing).

Having Tsukune focus on finding youkai that may be willing to befriend a human may become a priority, using his powers on a teacher or administrator to gain access to student files then focusing on students who are elves, nekomata, kappa (offering them cucumbers with his and the girls' names carved in them first of course), tengu, nymphs, dwarves, benevolent spirits, etc. could work towards this end and open up a whole mess of OCs for you to introduce as either potential members of Tsukune's harem, interesting new support characters or casual background characters.

Oh, if you want you could have some student of a... less friendly race catch Tsukune's attention when her file indicates that he/she spent time at a human school (much like Moka did). (a dragon or asura or some other such being)

Also towards this end do you think it would be impossible for Tsukune to decide to create his own club to attract such like minded individuals? Don't get me wrong the Newspaper Club could work wonders towards influencing the school and its mentality but having a club that specifically teaches you how to live and blend in the human world (teaching modern technology, fads, styles (instead of just gothic), music, etc.) and run by Tsukune and Moka, two "monsters" who've attended schools in the human world could help weed out those who are interested as well as troublemakers who would try to hamper Tsukune's plans.

    1. Would a student's race be included in their file? If so then what would it say for Tsukune and why would some teachers and council members be suprized by Moka being a vampire, for instance?

    2. Very good points. It does seem a little weird that people at the top don't know which students are what monsters, because it would probably have an effect on disciplinary measures. I mean, an unruly vampire student might be a bit tricky to contain without appropriate measures. And given that several of the students do demonstrate extremely antisocial behaviour... And the school has obviously been running for a few years at least... It's surprising they don't keep track of that apparently.

    3. True enough, though I feel that such information should be kept SOMEWHERE even if the run of the mill teachers don't see it. Another way to find some of this out would be to inquire with some of the students, even if they don't take their true forms that doesn't stop them from boasting about what they are or showing obvious hints (eating habits, aversion to light/water/heat, etc.), nor does it stop bullies with enhanced senses (werewolves, trolls, etc.) from picking on weaker monsters.

Now if only there were somebody who was skilled at listening in on these interesting conversations without their target noticing them watching, a master stalker if you will...

  2. Hm, maybe Tsukune has that idea after the swimming club incident. I kind of like that one, but it would mean that the newspaper club would likely close down for that year since it's pretty much just our main characters that are members (plus a certain werewolf, of course).

Also, I was thinking of having a subplot where Kurumu offers to explain everything she knows about the charm in exchange for Tsukune having sex with her, and him refusing because of loyalty to Moka. Trick being, Kurumu isn't going to make this easy on him. At all.

Anyway, those are really interesting ideas! Some of it might not come up in this particular episode, but we'll see how it turns out.
