Discussion: Tainted Cube Sailor Moon

Been thinking a bit about this one, come up with a few ideas I'd like to run by you all before writing anything. See what you think.

Start off with an examination of the name "Rei", and particularly how (if at all) it applies to the two very different characters. From there, shift into Rei deciding to alter her behaviour because she's bored

Meanwhile there are two other events going on that will shortly have a big effect on Rei. The first is a meeting between Usagi, Ami, Naru (who worked out who Sailor Moon was last time) and Luna. Naturally enough Luna's not happy about Naru knowing who they are, but ultimately decides they'll have to make the best of it. Naru is just too overcome by the sight of a talking cat to really join the conversation for a while. Before long they all conclude that there must be other Senshi out there, and they must be found as quickly as possible to bolster their ranks. What's more, Naru will tell them what she was being questioned about, confusing Luna into thinking they must be looking for something else than the cube entirely.

The other event is a change of tactic on the part of the Negaverse. Finding the mystery energy source is rapidly becoming a greater priority to them, so they've decided to get more eyes and ears on the ground so to speak. The plan is simple enough: Briefly kidnap lots of people, one by one, drain a little energy from them. Enough to make them weak willed and susceptible to hypnosis. After that, they will be set free to try and find out information about the energy source.

How does that sound to everyone? Got anything to add to it?

  1. Perhaps there should be some exposition from Luna about what the Sailor Senshi are about. Especially with the 'search for the Moon Princess' and all that. Maybe Naru asks what is exactly going on, although Luna isn't forthcoming to her.

    1. Seems reasonable to me. The only thing I'm not currently clear on is what exactly Tuxedo Mask is up to during this episode. Investigating people behaving oddly, perhaps?

Oh, and since Code Geass looks like it'll win next week (I see what you're doing, trying to get sexy magical girls in every series... Sneaky!) I'm trying to accomodate the desires of the masses and coming up with a new themed set of Magical Girls. Chess themed, perhaps? Eh! I'll figure it out next week.

    2. I'm interested as to what their powers would be. I remember a fic where Lelouch stayed in Britannia and gained a squad of loyal followers whose abilities represented chess pieces. The Rook, being powerful and direct, was a demolitions expert. The Bishop, attacking suddenly and without warning from across the field, was a sniper. The Knight, moving erracticaly and able to bypass other pieces, was a hacker...

If I were to try and guess what chess-themed magical girls would be like...

The Rook would use powerful Kamehameha type attacks; blasts of fire/lightning/wind/etc. or physical enhancements that allow her to go head-to-head with actual Knightmare frames.

I'm thinking give the Bishop long-ranged magical attacks but unlike the Rook, emphasize its applications for range and sniping rather than brute smash-your-face force.

The Knight would possess a form of short-mid ranged teleportation, possibly jumping in and out of shadows. Equipping her with a sword, shield and formfitting armor could also add to the visual theme.

Now all that's left is the King, Queen and Pawn.

Lelouch/Zero would probably be the "King" with the others serving him in a manner similar to the Senshi but another magical girl with telepathic/emapthetic abilities to help direct the others with could work. Maybe a form of magical charisma, not all powerful like Lelouch's Geass, but able to rally allies and demoralize enemies with a few choice words (though this would make Zero somewhat redundant).

The Queen could be Kallen, or not, up to you. If it's Kallen then something that emphasizes speed and power; physical enhancements if Rook didn't take them, likewise being able to enhance or even summon a superior/personalized Knightmare Frame would fit her a great deal.

Lastly the Pawn could possess either an "army" power, such as having a Kage Bushin type ability or a legion of animal familiars to act as spies and scouts, or an ability to remain unnoticed for similar espionage purposes. Later she could gain the power to change her appearance to that of others, or she gains a completely new set of powers (a reference to what happens when the pawn reaches the other side of the board).

      Hope some of this helps.

  2. Sounds like a pretty good plan for the Moon episode to me. (And if there are soon going to be mahou shoujo in Area 11, a chess theme seems fitting enough.)
