Discussion: Tainted Cube: Usagi's Harem

Now that I have a little more time to actually discuss this, I figured it would be a good idea to run some ideas by you guys before I got too deep into things. So, let's go!

While I don't think it would be too good an idea to do more than begin the harem (that is to say, Naru and Ami both fall for Usagi, and we go no further than that), and have subsequent episodes linger on the other girls joining in later on. Needless to say we don't have to make it just the Senshi, but they will of course be involved... Nor do we necessarily need to make it just girls either. But that's a point for another time.

Now, the main point I'm dithering on is how comedic I want to play this. Is this an unwanted harem on Usagi's part? Does she perhaps not notice all these people falling in love with her, or feel a little weirded out by all the flirting? Or does the cube make her figure, what the hell, this sounds like fun, let's all jump into bed together? That too could be played for laughs, I suppose, but the first option seems kind of funnier to me.

I was playing a little with the idea of Naru perhaps remembering the encounter the previous night and working out who Sailor Moon was, but keeping it to herself. Then she watches as her friend saves her again and again over the course of a week (glossing over the filler stuff) prompting her to fall for her best friend pretty damn hard.

As for Ami, I think she's probably both grateful that someone is willing to talk to her like an equal, and finds Usagi funny. This blossoms into love upon witnessing her hopeless optimism and bravery.

So, what do you guys think? Do you have anything you'd like to add to any of this?

  1. So you would prefer for Usagi not to understand what's happening? Well, that's fine. And like you said, probably funnier. But it wouldn't be much of a harem if she never reciprocates. After all, she's already got both Naru and Ami wrapped around her finger in Real World. So I think something *eventually* needs to come of it. Otherwise, I don't think it really conveys the spirit of Ataru's desire.

    Right? Right.

  2. I think it would be more interesting if the harem wasn't entirely unwanted and Usagi isn't oblivious. She could be interested and just have absolutely no idea what to do about it.
