Within Doctor Tofu's office, hell was about to arise. The good Doctor himself had managed to finally, at long last, calm himself down so he could resume his work in treating the sick, the poorly, and absolutely not gawping at his new hire. Alright. He had mentally prepared himself. He was ready. He was capable. Yet compare this to the first sentence of this very paragraph, and you should already know that things weren't quite going to go as he planned.
"Mrs Saotome, would you be able to..." the good Doctor said, trailing off as he entered the room and found that there was not just his new assistant in there, but someone else as well. A presence he should have expected, but had not for some reason.
It was an angel. A Goddess. The most beautiful woman in Furinkan... at least to his eyes. Though Mrs Saotome certainly came close. There was something about Kasumi Tendo that sparked something in him. Feelings bubbling up uncontrollably, like a volcanic eruption. Long had he yearned for her, long had he ached for her. It was a good thing he was a fully trained martial artist, for these intense feelings would have otherwise overwhelmed him and made him into a public spectacle that would have been truly unworthy of her.
Yes, he really thought that nobody knew that he had a crush on Kasumi. It was the worst kept open secret in the history of the world. The only person that didn't know it was currently wearing a cute white nurse's uniform. That is, a snug white dress that firmly fitted to her curves, went down to her thighs and not an inch lower, and oh dear she seemed to be struggling to zip up the front, giving him a good eyeful of cleavage right before she managed to pull it up.
"Oh, hello Doctor," Kasumi said. "What do you think?"
Alright. Keep calm. The woman you are head over heels with just asked you about her appearance. Her incredibly sexy appearance. Asked with an innocent tone that made it clear she wasn't really aware of how absurdly hot she was. You can do this. You can do this!
"I don't know Betty what do you think?!" he asked his skeleton, hanging in the corner as always. "Hahahaha! Don't be silly this is no time for you to learn how to tango!"
Dignity, thy name is Tofu.
That being the case, dignity decided, of its own volition, to take Betty off her stand and start to swing her around the room in a manner that could, if you squinted, be mistaken for a tango.
"Oh, Doctor, you're so funny!" Kasumi tittered, while Genma stared at the two of them in disbelief. "You control that skeleton so well!"
"Hahahahahahaha!" Tofu yelled, whirling Betty around faster and faster. They say that those whom Gods would destroy, they first drive mad. In that case, Tofu must have ticked off more than one deity recently. "Oh, Genma! Send in the next patient, please!"
"They're already here," Genma said firmly.
"They are? I don't see -" Tofu said, and then leaped to the side to dodge Genma's incoming blow to the back of his neck. "Are they over here? No? Perhaps under this pencil, or on top of this lamp?"
"Hrm... This behaviour..." Genma mused. "Is he often like this?"
"Oh yes, all the time," Kasumi said. "He's quite energetic, isn't he?"
A lightbulb went off over Genma's head upon hearing this. Her instincts as a martial artist kicked in good and hard - and so did a couple of other instincts that we will return to later. It was clear that this normally fine Doctor would wind up hurting someone, potentially himself, if he kept on behaving like this. As such, Genma had to step in.
"Could you please leave the room for a minute?" Genma said. "I need to discuss something private and personal with the good Doctor."
"Of course," Kasumi said, left the room - and this led to a chorus of screams of mortal terror, which is the exact opposite reaction one would expect upon seeing Kasumi Tendo wearing a skimpy nurse's uniform walk into the room. It did confirm Genma's suspicions, though.
"You like Kasumi Tendo," Genma said. "You don't know how to express those feelings. So you behave like a clown rather than let your true emotions out. That's quite unhealthy."
"Huhhhhh? Meeeee?" Tofu said, grabbing a book and slamming it into the top of his head over and over again. "Like Kasumi Tendo? Don't be daft! Don't be ridiculous! Why, I've known her since she was starting high school!"
Genma moved forward, intending to restrain him so they could talk more plainly - but Tofu's finger shot out like lightning. Genma blocked it on instinct - and then felt her arm go numb. A pressure point?! The arm dangled uselessly down by her side, and she leaped back to evaluate the situation anew.
With her remaining arm, she grabbed a chair and wielded it like a lion tamer. Except Tofu might be more dangerous by miles. "A martial artist must have command over their emotions, lest those emotions take command over you!" Genma roared. She thrust out the chair, this time managing to catch him, and from there she was able to throw him to the floor, pinning him under it and then sitting upon that chair to ensure she had full control over him.
"Alright, we're going to deal with this right here and now," Genma said. "Based on the reactions from your patients, this has been going on for long enough that others have noticed. It's interfering in your ability to perform as a Doctor, and you need to deal with it."
"Deal with what?" Tofu asked, his voice wavering.
"Please, Doctor. Do not treat me like an idiot. Admit your feelings. Say them aloud, and you will surely feel better."
"No! I can't!" Tofu cried. Struggling to upend the chair, and - Gosh he was quite strong wasn't he? Genma actually had to put more of her weight into this to keep him pinned down. "It wouldn't be right! It wouldn't be appropriate! There's no way - No way at all that she would be interested, it would be creepy!"
"That would be for her to decide, don't you think?" Genma said. "Hrmph! Another man trying to make a choice for a woman... Dummy. Tell her how you feel."
"Well, aren't you trying to make the choice for me?"
"No, I'm giving you advice." Bloody sensible advice at that. "If you don't tell her, then I will have no choice. After all, it's not just your safety on the line. With those pressure point attacks, your erratic behaviour makes you a danger to the community."
"I'll never tell her!"
"Never tell her... what?"
"I'll never tell her how much I love her!" Tofu wailed. "I'll never tell her how the mere sight of her fills me with such joy that it feels like I'm walking on air when she's nearby! How her voice is more glorious than a divinely inspired orchestra! If I told her that, then - Then I'd be as well crawling under a rock and - She's in the doorway right now isn't she?"
Smart guy, this Doctor Tofu. Not quite smart enough. Genma adjusted her glasses and turned to Kasumi.
"It's an unorthodox confession, but what do you think?"
"I think... I like older men," Kasumi said. "Ah, pardon me, Mrs Saotome. May I please speak with him alone."
"K-Kasumi..." Doctor Tofu burbled as Kasumi stepped forward. Ah. Given the way Kasumi was approaching, it did seem like an excellent time for Genma to make a quick departure.
Oh, young love! It was one thing setting up her own son with Soun's daughter, as that had been a long standing plan between them. This, was something else. Something special. Something... That Soun would be forever grateful for!
Hahaha! That's right Soun! Your old friend had set your oldest daughter up with the local Doctor! A handsome, kind man with a steady income who was well regarded in the community! You couldn't ask for much better than that! She was set for life!
"It's alright everyone, I think we're -" Genma began to reassure the patients who were all cowering in mortal terror behind the seats in the waiting room... Only for a distinctive, loud thud to come from the next room.
"Ohhh, Ono..." Kasumi moaned quite audibly through the wall. Aha! Yes. Ahem! "Your fingers, they're so... talented!"
Ahem! Well, it was a job well done in any event. The part about Kasumi getting railed in the Doctor's office was a part of the story that would be tactfully left out.
