Story: It's Fate

Went in a bit of a different direction here, and introduced quite a few new characters. Concepts for them are at the bottom.

Meanwhile, at Public School 9. It was a quiet school with a rather low rate of delinquency, which could be credited in part to the manner in which the faculty treated its students. Namely, they returned the respect that was given them. They made certain to reward those that excelled, and punished those that deserved it. It seems like such a simple thing, but perhaps they were lucky. Perhaps it was simply good fortune that led to their faculty genuinely giving a damn about their students, ensuring that they never once saw merely cogs in the machine and treated them all as individuals. Perhaps it was hard work. Perhaps it was simply fate.

Whatever the reason, it was a rather quiet school so far as schools go. It had certain… odd elements within it, but then it could hardly be perfect. Could it now? Still, the comparative silence was definitely an appreciated factor, and -

“YOU DID WHAAAAAT?!”

Ah. That was quite unusual, yes. Our attention must therefore turn towards five girls, four of whom were surrounding the last, who was holding up a hand wrapped in rather comedic fashion making it seem twice if not three times the size that it actually was. This injured girl, Mayo Nomura, stared apologetically at the others giving them all a silent “sorry” with her body language rather than her mouth.

“Well, isn’t this just super,” Yumako said, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I mean, if it were a cast, then we coulda maybe had you use it as a legal weapon, but -”

“But nothing!” Ai Santo yelled, leaping into the air and somehow managing to bap Yumako right on the top of her head. Not a small feat by any means. “This is swimming, not wrestling! Get it right!”

“Jeeze, Ai! I’m just trying to be funny!”

“One,” Ai’s twin sister Cho said, rolling her eyes. “That’s one unfunny joke from Yumako. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to recalculate Mayo’s measurements, and our chances of winning at the meet. Initial projections: Not good!”

Yumako scowled at the twins for a moment, then yawned and did a stretch that would have caused any boys watching to faint on the spot. As it was, the other four girls present momentarily questioned their sexuality and then got their thought processes back on track. This kind of thing happened on a pretty regular basis when regularly hanging around someone like Yumako.

“Goodness, Yumako!” the last member of the swim team exclaimed, a slow smile creeping over her lips and threatening to take over the rest of her face. “D-Did you have a bad sleep last night? I mean, that was a pretty biiiig yawn. Sort of made it look like you might, I don’t know, swallow me, or anyone else, whole! Hahaha! How silly!”

“That’s one show of Yoshi’s brave face,” Cho whispered under her breath. Then, louder she continued. “Honestly, as delightful as Yumako’s mouth might well be, she can’t hope to consume a great big thing like you whole.”

“You - You think so?” Yoshi enquired.

“Of course!” Cho said, slapping the girl with the perpetually changing strange phobia right on the back in a reassuring manner, incidentally taking the opportunity to make a palm estimation of how wide her back was. “At a rough estimation, it would take something like, oh, at least twenty to forty bites before she could consume your entire body! This is just an approximation, it must be pointed out. I would need to perform more extensive calculations for a more accurate number.”

“N-No, no thanks!” Yoshi exclaimed, backing away from the numbers-obsessed girl before she got out the Dreaded Measuring Tape. “Uh… Shouldn’t we focus more on what we’re going to do now that our star swimmer can’t participate?”

“Well, isn’t it obvious?” Ai replied, wagging her finger. “We push ourselves that much harder to win. Now the odds are against us, so we gotta pull together if we’re gonna pull off a win for our team!”

A stern expression fell upon the others, and as one they nodded their heads in agreement. Then, knowing they had to return to class, they filed out of the room with Ai leaving last with her eyes shut.

“Stupid window in the stupid door,” she mumbled to herself. “Just begging for trouble, that. Begging for it.”

Though if she did have an eye open, then maybe - just maybe - she might have spotted a glint of light shining off something that absolutely should not have been shining at all….

Meanwhile, at the last of the three schools involved with this particular meet, there was a girl sitting in class with her cellphone nestled in her book. She was watching the screen with great interest. It happened to be showing a girls’ locker room, but not just any girls’ locker room. The one used by the swim team of Public School 9. This girl was none other than Sae Yoshikawa, the sneaky spy of Public School 3. This was not a perverted mission, not by any stretch of the imagination. She had been busily recording a meeting of the swim club, all part of an attempt to acquire as much valuable data as possible about their adversaries before they could meet up.

She was busy, furiously scribbling notes. A concealed notebook. She would fill in the contents of her actual workbook later on, with the assistance of the device concealed on her desk recording the lesson. If the teacher asked her a question, all she had to do was tap a button and voila! Instant playback of the last few seconds, right in her ear. Perfect setup. Not that the teacher ever called for her anyway. He was the sort that picked out the students that didn’t look like they were paying attention, and even though she wasn’t, Sae absolutely did look like she was paying attention.

“You’ll never guess what I saw,” she whispered to fellow swim club member Namiyo Maeno as they strode through the corridors later on, “From my recording of PS9’s locker room earlier on!”

Namiyo elbowed her in rather a rough manner, which was something Sae really should have seen coming. Yeah, duh. Of course she would react that way. Even now Namiyo’s eyes were glazing over and her face was growing flush, and she was trying waaaay too hard to ignore the just barely regulation-length skirt another member of the team was wearing. Damn, Misa! Show some restraint for once!

“Why would I care about what happens in a girls’ locker room?” Namiyo insisted a little too quickly. “I don’t want to see girls naked. Why would I want to see girls naked?” She fidgeted and smiled a little to herself, the sort of smile a person doesn’t realise they’re wearing or else they’d take it off and throw it in the garbage right that instant. “It’s not like I was just daydreaming of tying up the PS9 swim team and giving them a good hard spanking or anything,” she had done that kind of cute thing. Putting her index fingers together tip to tip and pressing them against one another, again without seeming to know that she was doing it.

For her part, Misa Joshuya showed considerable restraint. The only reaction she had was a deadpan expression, and the words “I’d let you spank me any time,” which went completely unnoticed by Namiyo.

“Honestly, you two,” Michiko Ishinomori said, grabbing the lesbian in denial with one hand and the girl with the blatant crush on said lesbian with the other and pulled them all into a great big hug. “You make suuuuch a cute couple! You should go out, you really should!”

“We- We do go out!” Namiyo said. “All the time. We go to the movies, she’s always buying me dinner, and we sleep together all the time!”

It was obvious that Namiyo meant something more like a slumber party, but that didn’t stop Misa from fainting dead away. Sae knew for a fact that nothing of note happened at those meetings anyway. She’d seen it on her cameras. Speaking of…

“Mayo Nomura is out of the meet. Hand injury.”

“Another prediction come true!” declared the last member of their little club. Seiko Tomimoto, who walked towards the rest of them with a confident swagger. “You should listen to me more often. You know that my predictions are never, ever wrong.”

“Oh yeah?” Michiko said with a sarcastic sneer. “In that case… What about your prediction that roses would blossom in my hair last week? What happened to that?!”

“Oh, ho, ho!” Seiko chuckled, hiding her face behind a fan that, as always, appeared out of nowhere and depicted the night’s sky. “You cannot challenge fate, but nor can anyone deny: Just because it has not happened yet does not mean it will not happen!”

Sae had to repress a bit of a giggle, really. This was her team, and in spite of the digs they might have at one another they were about as thick as it got. Seiko and her bonkers predictions. Michiko and her matchmaking. Namiyo and Misa, the hottest couple in school that didn’t even seem to know they were an item. This was PS3’s swim team. Sure, they were a bit rowdy just now but it was simply their way of acting out because of how exciting the news was. One of the most worrying aspects had been removed. Well then. Just wait for it, guys. Wait for the news she had to share about what was going down at PS6!

 1. The apology happens. Whom is it to, and what are the results?
 2. Sae tries to explain what’s going on, and Seiko makes a really weird prediction.
 3. Koemi is upset. Something happens to make her happy. Like an adorable bunny landing on her head, I don’t know you decide.
 4. Miiko’s investigation begins.
 5. Something else

Meanwhile at Public School 9:
Mayo Nomura
Yumako Kijmuta
Yoshi Fukunaka
Generates phobias seemingly at random. Whenever confronted with whatever she’s afraid of at that particular moment, puts on an obviously faked brave face to try to hide it.

Cho Santo
Counts whenever given opportunity. Obsessed with numbers and statistics. Especially physical measurements.

Ai Santo
Whenever she sees her reflection in glass, something bad happens to her or a person near her. She’s gotten good at avoiding mirrors and windows. Really, really good.

Public School 3:
Seiko Tomimoto
Likes to make up crazy-ass predictions that could never come true. Strange how the few normal-sounding ones are never wrong.

Sae Yoshikawa
Obsessed with spy movies, and likes to make gadgets to spy on people, particularly the swim teams of other schools.

Michiko Ishinomori
Obsessive matchmaker. The cuter a potential couple, the more obsessive she becomes. Has no compunction against setting one person up with multiple people at once.

Namiyo Maeno
A lesbian in denial. Has nearly constant perverted fantasies about the attractive women around her, but pretends they didn’t happen, no sir!

Misa Joshuya
Also a lesbian, but totally okay with the fact. Crushing hard on Namiyo. Poor girl.
