Wow, has it really been almost a year since I last worked on this? Hardly seems like it. But there it is. Just about a year. Wow.
While it would be kinda fun to continue tormenting Akane by making her fight against her building lust until the very last, I do think it would be a good idea to push the plot forwards a little bit. I certainly think it's time for her and Ranma to get to school, for a good look at how things are there.
It might also be kinda fun to switch to Ranma's pov for a little while, to see what he makes of this crazy girl.
Yeah, it has been a while.
ReplyDelete*Rereads the last couple*
I think going with Ranma's POV and possibly some of Nabiki's could be quite fun in the same sense as Demon's Test. Sure, Akane is trying to keep control, but the only one she's really fooling even a bit is herself?
Ranma might be kind of confused. At this point, he hasn't had girls commenting on his sexiness at all? He's been isolated previously, and the last encounter with a really hot girl went kind of violently. Sure, in this take, Akane isn't a supermodel, but she's an attractive girl that just can't seem to stop commenting or staring at him, and always seems to blush when he's in the room?
Kuno might even not need to buy help, so much as just leap straight to assuming he's deflowered his Akane just by the way she looks at him. Totally the wrong assumption, but isn't that so Kuno to make anyway?
Personally, I'd vote for things starting to go off the rails and off the rails a bit in Ranma's favor. It'll certainly leave things a bit interesting when the other fiancees arrive and their not at odds...of course, perhaps they have a similar affliction. Who knows :P
Seeing Akane's breakdown from Ranma's perspective might be hilarious. I can just see her trying to talk to him while making one Freudian slip after another, getting more and more embarrassed as she tries to correct herself but only digs herself deeper. Finally, she just runs off, leaving him deeply confused.
ReplyDeleteI mean, Ranma's kinda dense when it comes to romance. Who knows what kind of conclusion he'll come to? He might decide that Akane is a lesbian, whose pissed off that he turned out to be a guy. After all, she seemed to treat him a lot nicer when she thought he was a girl. And all of the guys in her life seem to piss her off.
With a few misunderstood comments from her sisters or classmates, an accident with a bucket of water, and Akane leering at his female form, Ranma might become convinced that she is trying to keep him female. He'll responded by acting as masculine as possible, showing off his body, trying to scare her off. Of course, this will only drive Akane crazier, with entertaining results.
Eeh... That sounds like moving ahead by awkward tension. I wouldn't really want to read that since it sounds like:
ReplyDeleteRanma's unhappy because he misunderstands his fiancee.
Akane's unhappy because people think she's a lesbian and she has a crazy (but hot) fiancee who's trying to freak her out?
They're fiancees, not random folks at a school. If Ranma really got that notion, how come he wouldn't be looking at his other two options there? It'd also put Akane on a terrible footing if the other fiancees show up.
Sure, it'd be very Takahashi comedy, but the type that tends to be status quo removed rather than dealt with for fun antics in the future.
I'd argue that awkwardness and misunderstandings are the lifeblood of this type of series. And I doubt that Ranma would seek out one of the other two sisters, because he is not really interested in marriage to anyone. He is here against his will. If he is going to get married, it is because he fell for someone, not because whatever stupid arrangements his father made.
ReplyDeleteStill, you have a point about making the characters unhappy. So forget the whole trapping idea. Let's say that Ranma is actually attracted to Akane, and thinks that the feeling is mutual, judging by the slips she makes talking to him. Then, a few remarks she makes about him while in female form convinces him, and him alone, that she is only attracted to girls. Rather than freak out about this too badly, he decides to spend more time with her as a girl, because he does like her, and wants her to be happy. Maybe they go on a few pseudo-dates like this to get ice cream or something.
By the time the other fiancées show up, they've already settled into this sort of unspoken quasi-relationship, with Ranma convinced he has to remain female to hold on to Akane's affections and Akane at once both insanely happy to be close to Ranma, and intensely frustrated that they have gotten no farther than holding hands and cuddling a bit. When they are both girls, neither wants to make the first move, and she is getting closer and closer to just jumping him.
So, as I see it, this could be both a plus and a minus for Akane. On the one hand, she and Ranma already have a connection deeper than the others do. On the other, Ranma might enjoy people being attracted towards him while male, even if he doesn't have the same strong affection for them that he has for Akane. The fiancées might serve more to inspire jealousy in Akane, rather than serve as any serious competition. This might eventually motivate the two to finally confesses their feelings aloud, and help clear up the misunderstandings.
