Story: Naruto Normal

 

Yo, it's Naruto Uzumaki, freshly returned to Konoha, on a completely normal day! The sun was out, the folk of the village were happily mingling around, and there I was strolling casually through the streets with a big smile on my face, and hands clasped behind the back of my head.

I staggered back. “Whoa—!” I looked up and, yep. Pink hair. Angry eyes. Hands already on her hips. “S-Sakura-chan?!”

She scowled at me. “You’ve got the whole street and you still manage to run into me. What, were you asleep while walking?”

“Heh… guess I was just enjoying the day too much!” I laughed, rubbing the back of my head. “C’mon, you gotta admit, it’s nice out!”

She sighed like she always does, but I could tell she wasn’t that mad. “You’re unbelievable. You just got back, right?”

“Yep! Mission complete. Easy-peasy.” I grinned. “Didn’t even break a sweat! Already reported it to Granny and everything!”

“Uh-huh. I'm sure you didn’t break a sweat,” she said, totally not buying it.

Then I heard a soft voice behind her. “N-Naruto-kun… welcome home.”

Huh?! I hadn't even noticed that presence! Hinata was standing there, hands clasped together, looking a little nervous but smiling at me. A faint blush on her cheeks.

“H-Hinata!” I said. “Wow, uh… thanks! I didn’t know you’d be out today.”

Her cheeks turned pink as that awkward blush grew deeper. Man, she was always a shy girl. “I… I heard you were returning, so I thought maybe I’d see you.” She looked up at me for a second, then quickly looked away again. “I’m glad you’re safe.”

That smile hit me right in the chest. “Yeah. Me too.” I scratched my head, feeling kinda awkward but… good. “So, uh, you been training?”

She nodded quickly. “Y-Yes! I’ve been practicing my forms every day.”

Sakura glanced between us and smirked. “You two done catching up? We were actually heading to the training grounds.”

“Training?” My eyes lit up instantly. “Now you’re talking!”

“I figured you’d say that,” Sakura said. “Just don’t overdo it. You just got back.”

Hinata smiled softly. “I’d like to train together too… if that’s okay.”

“Heck yeah it is!” I said, probably a little too loud. “Let’s go!”

As we started walking, I leaned back, hands behind my head again, grinning up at the sky. Man… being back in Konoha really is the best. I stared at the two of them as they led on to the training ground, and... You know what, Sakura sure did seem tense today, and Hinata really does need to break out of that rut she's in. She's a good ninja, snuck up on him without much trouble just now, and that stuff with the Byakugan and the Gentle Fist was really cool!

A shaking hand reached out for my collar. It was as if I had seen someone driven completely to the edge finally, at long last, snapped. Come to think, I hadn't done this for Hinata yet, for some reason. Really probably ought to have, come to think of it.

"Your place is exactly one hundred and thirtynine steps from this exact spot," Hinata said, her voice deeper and huskier than usual. Her milky eyes were focused onto me with a tenacity that was honestly kinda... exciting? "Bring Sakura if you want, but we're not training today."

"We're not?" I asked. "Then what are we - "
